Adding a second story to a single-storey home in Metro Vancouver doubles the living space without consuming any additional lot coverage — a critical advantage in a city where zoning FSR limits and tight setbacks on standard 33-foot lots leave little room for ground-level expansion.

Most families need to arrange temporary living accommodations during the 3-6 months of active construction, particularly during the open-roof phase.

Zoning approval through the City of Vancouver or applicable municipality involves height restrictions (typically 10.7 metres in RS zones), view corridor protection in some neighbourhoods, and neighbourhood notification processes.
